Activities available from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Using Color in Chemistry (Chemistry)
Location: CLB 203
Explore how different atoms make different colors. Use this new understanding to discover how firework colors are made. Try some of the tools scientists use to see those colors, and learn more about what atoms make up a molecule or solution.

Hands in the Sand: Explore Earth Processes (Geoscience)
Location: CLB 403
Dig into the sand and create landforms like mountains, volcanoes, and valleys. The Augmented Reality Sandbox projects contour lines on the landforms to create topographic maps that we’ll interpret together. The Stream Table generates running water so we can observe how landforms change when shaped by this powerful force of nature.

Swiftie Bash (Pave Creative)
Location: MTC 314
Smiles and good vibes abound with Pave Creative! Join us under the disco lights for some fun karaoke, dancing and bracelet-making.

Edible Welding (National Academy of Railroad Science)
Location: MTC 224
Learn the process behind how things are made in this tasty activity! With blueprint instructions, use graham crackers and icing to master the concept of welding, including the various techniques and the meaning behind instructional symbols. Apply a weld using cupcake icing and inspect the size of your weld. When finished, snack on your hard work!

The Power of Your Body (TigerRock Martial Arts)
Location: MTC 217
Join TigerRock Martial Arts to learn just how powerful your body can be! In this fun activity, learn different ways to apply the force of your body. See how the direction and speed that you move in can change how strong your body is and feels. This activity will teach you how science and math apply to your body’s movements while playing your favorite sports.

Decoding Alien Messages (Computer Science)
Location: MTC 312
Hello, astronauts! Your space adventure has taken you to planet Pixel, where alien life is friendly and trying to tell you something. Can you decode their messages using computer science principles? Perhaps uncovering their message will lead you to a sweet discovery!

Wings and Things (Marais des Cygnes National Wildlife Refuge)
Location: MTC 215
Get ready to flap, peck, and perch like real birds! In this activity led by Marais des Cygnes National Wildlife Refuge, kids will become bird detectives, exploring all kinds of feathers, feet, beaks, and wings to discover what makes each bird special. It's a wild and wacky way to learn how birds are perfectly built for their lives!

Sailing into Science: Harness the Wind (Kansas Energy Program)
Location: MTC 232
Harness the power of the wind with the Kansas Energy Program! In this challenge, you'll design and build your own sail car - a vehicle powered entirely by the breeze!

Mathematical Playground (Rockhurst University: Mathapalooza)
Location: MTC 219
Join us at the Mathapalooza Mathematical Playground, where playful games and puzzles spark creativity, problem-solving, and a love for learning through engaging mathematical challenges!

Sound Explorers (Web Development and Digital Media)
Location: MTC 352

Become a sound explorer and discover where everyday objects become tools for creating the sound effects in your favorite movies! In this hands-on activity, students will visit multiple stations where they will explore how sound bring stories to life in the most unexpected ways!

DIY Rubber Band Cars (First Robotics Team 1710)
Location: MTC 234
Build, stretch, ZOOOM!!! In this high-energy activity from First Robotics Team 1710, kids will learn about the world of simple machines by designing and building their very own rubber band-powered car. As they twist, wind, and test their creations, they'll discover how wheels, axles and stored energy work together to make things move.

Bridge Building Bonanza (Physical Science)
Location: CLB 303
In this fun challenge, students will build their own mini bridges using everyday materials and test them to see how much mass they can hold until they break. Will your bridge be the strongest? We can't wait to find out!

*Mirror, Mirror: Symmetry and Patterns in Nature (Organismal Biology and Mathematics)
Location: Colab
Step into the wild world of patterns and proportions in this magical activity that mixes science, math, and art to show how nature is one big masterpiece. In this activity, students will uncover the hidden math all around them, learning about symmetry, fractals, Fibonacci, and the golden ratio by investigating natural objects like flowers, leaves, skulls, shells, and algae.
